Hanna Wallis is an award-winning journalist and filmmaker focused on land defenders and Indigenous movements in Latin America. Her print, photo, and video work has appeared in major outlets such as The Washington Post, Al Jazeera, The Nation, Harpers, Orion Magazine, Teen Vogue, and others. She earned her masters in Global Journalism and Latin American Studies from New York University, reporting in Colombia during the country’s fraught peace process in 2016. Since graduating, she has been shooting and directing a feature documentary extending from this investigation about the Guardia Indigena, an unarmed Indigenous resistance force living in Cauca, Colombia, a hotbed of the enduring conflict. 


Hanna seeks out immersive, character-driven stories about resilience and community organizing. She is an International Women's Media Foundation fellow whose work has been recognized by One World Media Foundation and The Online Journalism Association. These days, she splits her time between Colombia and Los Angeles while finishing production of her film. Hanna is always open to new collaborations.
